Extended Care at SWS

Our Extended Care program is designed to provide a safe, engaging, and relaxed environment for students before and after school while supporting the needs of our SWS families.

Students will enjoy time to:

• Play outdoors and be active

• Build friendships across grade levels

• Complete nightly Spanish and English reading

• Work on homework when appropriate

• Participate in creative, screen-free activities

Extended Care is intended to be an extension of the SWS experience, giving students a positive place to either begin their day or to unwind after a full day of learning.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can my child attend only on certain days? Yes. Families select the weekdays they wish to reserve during registration.

Can I pick my child up before 5:00? Yes. Families may pick up any time during Extended Care hours. Only individuals authorized via your provided pick-up list may pick up a student. If someone different will be picking up your child, please notify us via email to provide. that person's full name.

Anyone unknown to staff will be asked to present photo identification.

Is snack provided? Yes. A healthy afternoon snack is included each day. (Apples, Oranges, Bananas, Carrots, Apple Sauce)

Will my child complete homework? Students will have time for homework and nightly Spanish and English reading, with time scheduled to encourage good work habits.

Can I request an extra day if my schedule changes? Drop-in care may be available if staffing and space allow. Approval is not guaranteed. Recurring weekly enrollment receives priority because those days are reserved for the semester.

What is a typical day in Extended Care? A typical afternoon may include snack and decompression, outdoor play and movement, reading and homework time, and creative choice activities such as art, building materials, board games, puzzles, and reading. Activities may vary based on weather, student interests, and the season.

What does the 'Nightly Reading' look like in Extended Care? A unique feature of SWS Extended Care is Reading Buddies. Older students may partner with younger students to practice reading together, build confidence, strengthen reading fluency, develop leadership skills, and foster friendships across grade levels.

What if I'm late for pick-up? Extended Care ends promptly at 5:00 PM. A five-minute grace period is provided for unexpected delays. Beginning at 5:06 PM, a late pick-up fee will be assessed to help cover the additional staffing costs incurred when a teacher must remain after scheduled hours. Repeated late pick-ups may result in a meeting to discuss whether Extended Care continues to be the best fit for your family's needs.

Before School Care: Monday–Friday, 8:00–8:45 AM.

Students may arrive beginning at 8:00 AM.

Care is not available before 8:00 AM.

After School Care: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday from 3:15–5:00 PM.

Wednesday from 1:30–5:00 PM. (preschoolers 3:15-5:00)

Students may be picked up any time before 5:00 PM.

Extended Care Costs

Morning Care is offered from 8:00–8:45 AM. This is an optional early drop-off service intended for families who truly need care before the regular school day. Afternoon Care is offered until 5:00 PM. Cost is determined by the number of school days care is offered during the semester. First semester tuition is divided into five equal ACH payments..

Late Pick-Up Policy

Children must be picked up by 5:00 PM.

A five-minute grace period is provided for unforeseen traffic or emergencies.

Late pick-up fees are assessed as follows:

5:06–5:15 PM: $20
5:16–5:30 PM: $40
After 5:30 PM: $40 plus $2 per additional minute

Late fees will be added to the family's account and are due with the next ACH payment.

We reserve the right to waive a late fee in the event of a verified emergency or other extenuating circumstances.

Capacity & Waitlist Notice

Extended Care enrollment is limited to 20 students per day. We will keep this form updated and will promptly mark any days that have reached capacity. Once a day has reached capacity, your child will be added to the waitlist for that selected day. We will confirm your child’s enrolled days and any waitlisted days before invoicing.

Health, Safety, Behavior, Snack, and Belongings

All SWS health policies remain in effect during Extended Care. Medication may only be administered with required authorization forms on file. Extended Care follows all expectations outlined in the SWS Family Handbook, including respect, responsibility, kindness, and safety. A healthy snack is provided daily. Students should bring a water bottle, reading materials, and homework when applicable. Electronics, toys, and valuables should remain at home unless specifically requested for school activities.

Drop-In Care

Drop-in care may be available when staffing and space allow. Drop-in care is not guaranteed and should be requested as early as possible through the SWS Parent App. Families should not rely on drop-in care as their regular childcare plan. Students enrolled in recurring weekly care will have priority because their selected days reserve a space for the semester. If a requested drop-in day has already reached capacity, the child may be added to the waitlist for that day.
