Math

“Best math game ever!”

Playing trashketball!

Reviewing for the chapter test!

This week we worked with changing fractions to decimals and decimals to fractions. We also had our chapter test this Friday. Our objectives were:

  • express a fraction as a decimal and a decimal as a fraction
  • analyze parts and whole
  • compare decimals
  • reinforce and consolidate chapter skills and concepts by playing Trashketball
  • demonstrate understanding on the chapter test.

We had so much fun playing Trashketball (it might be a new favorite!). Students also did very well on their chapter test which will help them succeed in our next chapter Adding and Subtracting Decimals.

History and Geography

Hmmm was Shihuangdi a good emperor?

Great job making a Pros and Cons list!

This week we began our new unit Dynasties of China. We started by looking at the first emperor and the Han dynasty. Our objectives were:

  • to recognize Shihuangdi’s sweeping political accomplishments, as well as his tyrannical methods of leadership
  • understand the Shihuangdi became obsessed with immortality and secrecy
  • understand China’s isolation and why the Chinese finally tried to break that isolation
  • identify the reasons for the development of the Silk Road
  • relate the idea of the Han dynasty as a golden time of cultural advances such as the invention of paper

English Language Arts

Reminder that student’s book reports are due next Friday, March 31st. Students should be wrapping up their reading and starting on the cereal box portion of their project. Students will write note cards for their presentation next week and will have all of Spring Break to practice. It will be a more informal presentation but students should still practice at home! Parents are welcome to come by and see the presentations at the beginning of class Monday, April 3. Presentations will begin around 9:30. I will have a schedule for presentations in next week’s newsletter.

Science

This week we continued to devote our time to our science presentations. Students finished their Power Point/posters presentations, met with editor Paola and had a chance to practice several times. We also got to complete our science assessments. Everybody did a great job staying busy, using their time wisely fulfilling their obligations.

Our presentations are next week during science class (12:50 – 1: 30). You are all welcome to attend.
