Transportation Unit
This week we continued working with our transportation unit.  Kids love learning about flying on airplanes. This lesson makes a great part of our transportation unit. They learned about airplanes and we could see how they were fascinated by the sight of a shiny, big object moving in the sky. We began our discussion by asking some question as; what flies in the sky? They answered, birds, airplanes, helicopters, hot air balloons, etc, a lot of ideas from brainstorming! Some of them wish to be a pilot, some of them want to go to Disneyland. Listen to them is amazing as they are incredible and full of imagination. They are very special kids and we love them!
20170126_095651Thursday and Friday, the kids learned about ships. They learned that people use boats for travel and transportation purposes like, some boats are used to travel over small distances while others are used for long distance travel. We talked about different kinds of boats; row boats/ barco de remo, skiffs/bote pequeño,  wherries/ velero, ocean liners/ crucero, etc. We showed them photographs and posters of boats. We informed the kiddos about the different parts of a boat/ barco like deck/cubierta, mast/ asta or mastil, sail/vela, engine/motor, anchor/ancla. They know about the kinds of things that can be transported on boats. Banana boats of course transport bananas. Other things transported in other boats include food, clothes, vehicles, machines, animals, people and so on. The goods to be transported are usually put into the cargo hold of the boat or stored on the boat deck. Boats that are used to transport people have sitting, sleeping, eating and entertainment areas so that the passengers can travel in comfort. Also, we talked about how some people actually live on boats. Their boats are fitted with most of the useful accessories and things that we have in our land-bound homes. We played games and had fun doing crafts such ad; paper airplanes/ aviones de papel, hot air balloon/ globo aerostatico, and paper plate sailboat.

This week the kids reviewed the number 7. We did different activities like counting and recognizing the number through Legos, cars, trains, and counting and sorting piles of manipulatives on the ground next to the number 7.
La Figura y Color
This week we continued reviewing the shapes circulo/circle, cuadrado/square, triangulo/triangle, rectangulo/rectangle and ovalo/oval. The kiddos could play and review the shapes in our road truck shape again. They drove the cars along the roads and counted how many corners each shape has and identified the shape names. We also compared different sizes of the rectangle shape too. Also, the kids continued reinforcing the color names that they learned like rojo/red, azul/blue, verde/green, and amarillo/yellow. We made a paper airplane with our review colors and each child chose the color they wanted, but not before they named all the colors.
Have a good weekend!
